Happy Spring Wishes!
Something lovely about Spring in Sweden is that you can almost count on house guests arriving with tulips, this time of the year. Although, our lawn is covered with snow and the tulip bulbs that we planted won't show their faces soon, there are the most beautiful shades and varieties of tulips available everywhere from florists to your local grocer.
The other things I've learned about Spring in Sweden is that you can almost count on most people having an Alvar Aalto Vase. This vase, which was created almost 100 years ago, is just pure magic for tulips. Tulips absolutely fall into place in it and make you look like you have studied the art of flower arrangement.
This vase, originally named the Savoy, was designed by Alvar Aalto and his wife for the Savoy Hotel in Finland in 1936. Aalto was said to have been inspired by the dress of a "Sami" woman (or Lapplander) for these. It's become iconic and is available in a number of colors and sizes. From our house to yours: Happy Spring!
